Employee Spotlight

One of growth, grit, and a drive to make things better for the team around him, Nick’s path show’s what’s possible. Since joining in 2016 with no prior experience, Nick has worked his way up from learning basic crane and hoist inspections/repairs to leading from the front as our Field Service Supervisor. Nick’s experience at CraneWerks is a perfect example of when hard work, respect, and dedication come together.
In his early years, Nick put in the hours—answering service calls day and night, gaining hands-on knowledge, and developing the skills that laid the foundation for his career. As a lead inspector, he went on to oversee inspection staff, train them on new standards, review the quality of their work, and streamline processes by updating the inspection system.
Now, as Field Service Supervisor, Nick’s responsibilities are as diverse as they are vital. One day, he’s preparing parts for upcoming jobs in the office; the next, he’s assisting technicians on overhead crane service calls or stepping in himself when demand is high. He also supports scheduling, parts management, and day-to-day problem-solving to keep operations running smoothly.
Nick will continue working with inspectors whether they are new to the role or are seasoned veterans to ensure everyone stays current with standards while promoting consistency with reporting and communication. He will also take an active role in training new technicians, helping them build the skills and confidence needed to succeed in the field.
Nick’s main objective? Making sure field crews have what they need—on time, every time. That means ensuring the right parts are available to eliminate costly return trips, keeping jobs on schedule, and cutting through confusion by serving as the go-between for management and the service team.
What drives Nick is the unpredictability of the work and the fact that no two days are the same. He thrives on the constant learning curve and the challenges that push him to grow. He also enjoys seeing inside different industries—like mason jar factories or beverage can plants—that remind him of shows like Dirty Jobs or How It’s Made.
Nick shares, “If you were on an assembly line, you’re going to do the same job every single day. You show up, you already know what you’re getting into…with this job, you don’t know what you’re getting into… You’ll never learn everything. Just when you think you have a grasp on everything, something humbles you, so it motivates you to learn more. ”
Nick takes pride in preparation. From organizing parts by job date on designated shelves to double-checking availability and alerting technicians to any missing components, his efforts prevent wasted trips and help jobs run smoothly. For him, the best days are when everything falls into place—the right parts, no return calls, and happy customers.
Balancing support with accountability hasn’t been without challenges, especially moving from peer to leader. But thanks to the relationships Nick has built over the past decade, respect runs both ways. That mutual understanding has created a culture where accountability comes naturally without heavy-handed supervision.
Outside of work, Nick stays just as busy. He coaches his sons’ baseball and football teams, maintains a backyard go-kart track, and keeps his kids’ recreational vehicles in working order. One of his favorite CraneWerks traditions is the annual Minnesota trip—working nights, spending days playing bingo with the locals, and exploring the Mall of America.
