Role Description

As the Special Projects Fabricator, you will take charge of the special projects fabrication team, overseeing the creation and assembly of various custom material handling components, such as lifting devices, lift tables, torque arms, and carts. Your role will involve hands-on fabrication work, project management, and close collaboration with our design and engineering teams to ensure projects are completed on time and to the highest quality standards.

We’re currently seeking a skilled and experienced fabricator to lead our Special Projects Fabrication Team, focusing on custom material handling equipment.

Qualifications to be our Special Projects Fabricator

  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication/shop prints
  • Strong attention to detail and precision in measurements
  • Proficiency in using precision measurement tools
  • Familiarity with mills, lathes, and welding processes
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and personnel simultaneously
  • Capable of working with and without prints when necessary
  • Strong math skills
  • Basic computer skills

Education and Experience:

  • Experience in fabrication, machining, or a related field is required
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a fabrication environment is a plus

What would being CraneWerks’ Special Projects Fabricator look like?

As our Special Projects Fabricator, you will:

  • Schedule projects, personnel, and allocate resources to meet production deadlines set by the Special Projects Manager
  • Review prints prior to fabrication and communicate with the design team
  • Answer technical questions from the fabrication team and provide guidance
  • Coordinate with suppliers and the design team for materials, paint, and other outsourced items
  • Maintain clear communication with the fabrication team and Special Projects Manager regarding project deadlines
  • Perform dimensional and quality control checks throughout various stages of the project
  • Fabricate lift fixtures and other custom material handling equipment
  • Operate and maintain lathes, mills, saws, and other department equipment
  • Collaborate with draftsmen to generate material lists, pull materials from inventory, and assist in procurement
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area
  • Assist in final quality control and fit checks
  • Occasionally make site visits for fit checks or to confirm measurements
  • Lead and mentor the special projects fabrication team
