Spreading Sunshine

A 2026 Leadership Shelby County Initiative

An initiative by Leadership Shelby County, Spreading Sunshine was a community-driven group focused on rallying local support to turn an empty space into a warm refuge for our neighbors struggling with housing, who need a little sunshine.

On February 7, 2026, The Spreading Sunshine group hosted a pancake breakfast, ‘Stacks of Sunshine,’ at The Bridge Ministries in Shelbyville, Indiana. The breakfast was held in support of The Sunshine House, a local nonprofit that had recently opened an overnight shelter for the community’s unhoused population. The group was surprised,

“Homelessness is becoming more and more common in Shelbyville.”

The Spreading Sunshine group chose to host a breakfast to go along with the theme of sunshine and providing food to support people who are struggling with basic needs. Just Peachy donated the pancakes for the event, Linne’s Bakery donated muffins, cookies, and donuts. A silent auction was held during the event as well, which included:

  • A basket from Willow & Ivy Aesthetics, tox and filler provider
  • An air fryer from Bishopp’s Appliances
  • A 3-month adult membership to the Shelby County YMCA
  • A yoga mat and 2 free sessions to Just Breathe Wellness Studio
