A major highlight of Wyatt’s technical journey has been his involvement in SkillsUSA, a national career and technical student organization that connects students with industry through competition and hands on learning. Wyatt serves as a chapter secretariat and has competed at the state level in welding sculpture.
Through his training in the Blue River Career Programs Welding Technology program, Wyatt has developed skills in safety, blueprint reading, metal properties, and fabrication. During his SkillsUSA competition work, Wyatt designed and fabricated a large scale welding art piece, investing months of planning, layout, and execution. His efforts earned him a first place finish at the Indiana state level and a qualifying spot at the national competition in Atlanta.
Wyatt also documented his work in detail, creating a comprehensive binder that included design plans and blueprints. This process demonstrated not only technical ability, but also discipline, preparation, and pride in craftsmanship.
Career Goals Rooted in Craft and Community
Wyatt’s passion for welding started early and continues to grow. “From a young age, I have always enjoyed working with my hands.” That interest quickly turned into action, leading to independent projects, sculptures and custom fabrication work.
He described the pride that comes with the trade, stating, “Welding provides the opportunity to step back and look onward toward something I have fabricated myself.” Wyatt plans to begin his career in welding fabrication before eventually moving into education. As he explained, “It is my goal to enter the welding industry working in fabrication before later transitioning towards being a welding instructor. I wish to further give back to my community by instructing students just as I have been taught. ”

Reducing Barriers to Trade Education
Trade education is a powerful investment, but it can also bring financial challenges. Wyatt shared that, “By receiving this scholarship, it would help me achieve my goals by lessening the financial burden of trade schools.” The Roger Graham Scholarship allows him to focus on sharpening his skills, earning certifications, and preparing for a long term career in welding.
He added that this support “would have a lifetime impact and push me forward in my pursuit of welding fabrication, allowing me to make my mark in this industry.”
Investing in the Trades and the Next Generation
The Roger Graham Scholarship was created to honor the legacy of a valued member of the CraneWerks family who believed in hard work, craftsmanship, and giving back. Each year, the scholarship supports a deserving high school senior from East Central Indiana who is pursuing a career in the skilled trades.
Trades like welding are essential to American industry and local communities. By investing in students like Wyatt Fisher, CraneWerks helps ensure the next generation of tradespeople is prepared, motivated, and ready to lead. Wyatt’s dedication, leadership, and pride in his work make him a strong example of why the future of the trades matters.

Congratulations, Wyatt! We can’t wait to see what you build next.
